On January 5, 1960, Chicago firefighter Clarence F. Sredzinski died of a fractured skull after being crushed by a fire engine. He had responded with Engine Company 126 of the 19th battalion to a fire at a vacant home. After dismounting the rig, he slipped on ice and fell beneath the pumper truck’s wheels.
