Structural Collapse

Structural Collapse

Program Description

The Illinois Fire Service Institute takes pride in knowing that its Structural Collapse Program is one of the finest in the country and the first to be federally approved, offering courses to train Firefighters, Rescue Teams and First Responders who may be expected to respond to a collapsed building.

Course topics include recon, rescue shoring, lifting and stabilization, cutting metal, breeching concrete, crane operations and void space search. The scenarios presented in class utilize engineered collapse props to give students the ability to experience hands on, real world situations.

The Structural Collapse Program is based on NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications, meets or exceeds FEMA standards and is certified through the Illinois State Fire Marshals Office.
