Vehicular Rescue


Program Description

The Illinois Fire Service Institute's Vehicle and Machinery program offers courses to train Firefighters who respond to incidents such as: passenger and heavy vehicle incidents, equipment entrapments, impalements, and farm and industrial machinery entrapments.

Course topics include proper use of hand, electric, pneumatic, and heavy hydraulic tools. Training concentrates on stabilization and extrication from passenger vehicles, buses, medium and heavy trucks, tractors and farm implements, industrial equipment. All operations stress rescuer and victim safety.

All of these courses are based on NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications. Courses range from 4 to 40 hours in length with some courses being eligible for state and national certification. All courses may be conducted at your department using your equipment, and many are offered at no cost through the Cornerstone Program.
