Program Description

The Illinois Fire Service Institute's Propane, Oil and Gas program offers courses to train Firefighters/ First Responders who respond to Gas and Oil emergencies.

Course topics include properties and physical characteristics of products, firefighting tactics with skills necessary to safely and effectively manage the emergency.

Through a grant from the Illinois Propane Education and Research Council (IPERC), the Illinois Fire Service Institute makes Liquefied Petroleum (LP) gas firefighting available to fire departments at no cost. IPERC provides funding for propane fuel and equipment used in training. Classes are held throughout Illinois at local fire departments and at IFSI's Champaign campus. Oil well firefighting training is funded through a partnership with Illinois Petroleum Resource Board and the Department of Natural Resources.
