Firefighters Matthew Dubik and Patrick McBrien of the Brookfield Fire Department were awarded the Medal of Valor for their efforts to rescue a young boy from a residential fire in Brookfield, Illinois on November 30, 2007.
Firefighters Dubik and McBrien arrived at 3300 Arthur Avenue to a fully involved house fire. McBrien braved the thick black smoke, which reduced visibility to zero, to find a four-year-old boy in the bedroom. Dubik was waiting outside the hallway. McBrien passed the victim to Dubik, who subsequently continued medical care on the victim until a Brookfield ambulance arrived.
