Collinsville Fire Department Firefighter Jason Warner was awarded the Medal of Honor for rescuing a driver from a submerged vehicle.
On February 12, 2022, a 911 call was made from inside a car in the middle of an icy retention pond. Dylan Madron, a Collinsville police officer, was the first to arrive at the scene. He immediately entered the water but was unable to break through the window due to the limited number of tools he had. Warner arrived by ambulance and quickly entered the water to assist officer Madron in the rescue attempt. Using a New York hook, Warner was almost immediately able to break through the window and reach the door handle before assisting the victim out of the passenger side. They were able to safely remove the victim from the vehicle and water with no injuries.
