Chicago Fire Department Lieutenant John O’Brien and Firefighter Eric Claudio were awarded the Medal of Valor for their actions during a building fire in Chicago on July 5, 2017.
O’Brien and Claudio performed a search of the three-story building under heavy fire and smoke conditions. They crawled up the main stairway entrance into the dining room with zero visibility, where they found an unconscious victim. Together they brought the victim out of the apartment through intense flames and performed CPR until the ambulance arrived to take over.
