On May 12, 1912, Chicago Fire Department Driver Casper Snite of Engine 113 died in the line of duty after he was thrown from a hose cart when it struck a rut in the road at the intersection of Harrison Street and 45th Avenue. He was transported to Robert Burns Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
