On April 8, 1893, Chicago Fire Department Captain Henry Greenhoff of Engine 11 died in the line of duty while fighting a fire at the corner of Ontario and Market Streets. He suffered a fatal heart attack after he was overcome by smoke during firefighting operations. Greenhoff was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery on April 11.
