On October 13, 1960, Chicago Fire Department Captain John Reszczynski of Hook and Ladder 19 died in the line of duty during an arson fire in a commercial structure on Milwaukee Avenue. Reszczynski collapsed due to smoke inhalation while fighting the fire, and was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
