On May 6, 1963, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Andrew Ted Gapsa of Rescue Squad 2 was fatally injured when he was thrown from a fire truck while responding to a false alarm. Gapsa was transported to St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital where he died from his injuries on May 17.
