On August 26, 2012, Chicago Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Fidel Serrano died at his home after suffering a stroke from the overexertion of his shift on August 24, 2012.
Serrano was serving with Engine 125 on August 24. Engine 125 had a total of 9 emergency responses during his work shift, coupled with a physically demanding company drill at the beginning of his tour of duty. The heat index also reached 105 degrees on that day.
