Bio:

Tal Prendergast has been with IFSI since 2002, first as a stoker and now as a Field Staff Instructor for various programs including Certified Firefighter II Academy, Confined Space Rescue, Cornerstone training, Fire Apparatus Engineer, Industrial, LP and Trench Rescue. He became the Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE)/Fire Service Vehicle Operator (FSVO) Program Manager when the positions were created in 2013.

As the FAE/FSVO Program Manager, Tal is responsible for the management of the content and the delivery of the FAE program, the FSVO program, and the seven other Cornerstone classes which are directly related to driving and operating fire apparatus. He is responsible for updating all of the classes in his programs to keep them current with national professional standards, Illinois State Fire Marshal standards, current practices, and new technology.


Tal began his career with the Edge-Scott Fire Protection District in 1996 as a cadet until he retired as a Captain in 2008. He worked as a firefighter for the Danville Fire Department from 2003 until he moved to the Urbana Fire Department in 2008 where he is currently a Firefighter and serves on the MABAS 28 Technical Rescue Team.

Tal holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Technical Systems Management.
