Bio:

Chris Downey joined IFSI in 2005 and has been the Hazmat Program Manager since 2006, where he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Hazardous Materials Program. His responsibilities include scheduling approximately 100 HazMat classes each year, administering the HazMat portions of the HMEP and ITTF grants, maintaining equipment for three Operations and four Technician trailers and maintaining a roster of qualified instructors. Chris is also responsible to assure HazMat curriculum is current and relevant and that program content meets or exceeds state and national standards. As Program Manager, Chris represents the Hazmat Program in state and national organizations and works with industrial, military, law enforcement, and other non-fire clients.
Chris began his fire service career in 1998 and has served on the Decatur Fire Department since 2006 and is the Decatur Fire MABAS 46 HazMat Team Training Coordinator, as well as a team member. Prior to joining the Decatur department, Chris was a firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain and Training Officer with the Hickory Point Fire Department.
Chris holds an Associate’s degree in Applied Science in the Fire Service from Richland Community College and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Management from Millikin University. He holds OSFM certifications in HazMat Technician B, HazMat IMS, Instructor II, Firefighter III, Trench Operations, Rope Tech, Confined Space Technician, Structural Collapse Operations, Vehicle Machinery Operations, Fire Service Vehicle Operator, Fire Apparatus Engineer and Fire Officer I.
