Welcome to IEMS! We are always happy to have you on our team.
To join IEMS, please follow these steps:
Once your account has been created, you can log in here.
On your member profile, scroll to the bottom of the page to upload a picture of your CPR card. Please note- the profile will only accept one file per card, so photos/scans need to have both the front and back of your card consolidated into one document. Those wanting to volunteer with IEMS as an EMT-B, must also have an AHA BLS certification. Those wanting to volunteer with IEMS as an EMS-Aide, must have an AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or an ECSI CPR/AED/First Aid certification. While a BLS Certification is preffered, as it is required to be in the EMT class, the ECSI CPR/AED/First Aid Class covers a wider variety of topics. If you need a certification, sign up for a course on our website. If you have any questions, send us an email at email@example.com
Enroll in the course on Compass. After following the link, hit the green "Enroll" button on the left. All new members must review the content in the "Intro to IEMS" section and "EMS Aide Orientation" section. Once you have passed the quiz, fill out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/TYGgpoAK0YxuPfrx1. Next, go to the "Orientation" section and complete the "Pre-assessment", "START Triage Training", and "START Triage Quiz".
At large university events, Illini EMS operates under the Incident Command System. There is mandatory online training from the Department of Homeland Security that explains this framework. After receiving completion certificates, scroll to the bottom of your member profile to upload them. To complete this training first:
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com to schedule a time to come into the office. New members must deposit $45 to cover your background check. You may request to have this deposit refunded after successfully completing two semesters meeting the minimum volunteer requirements (both operational and non-operational events). At this time, you can also obtain your ID badge and purchase the required uniform polo. The uniform polo costs $45 as well. Let the officer staffing the office know you all your provider (CPR and EMT) certifications and licensure, ICS certifications, and START triage training is completed. They will review your profile and update accordingly.
Make sure to review our standard operating guideline at our "Documents" page located here. This document outlines policies and procedures set by the Operations Department for members. If you have any questions about this document, contact the Director of Operations. Check the "Contact Us" page here to reach the Director of Operations.
All EMTs must take Critical Skills annually (i.e. if you complete it in the Fall, you do not need to do it again the following Spring). Sign up on the Events page; if no dates are available, contact the Training Officer to learn if it will be possible to arrange for another session to be held before the start of next semester. There are usually multiple Critical Skills at the beginning of the semester and one at the end of the semester. Be on the look out for these located on the events page. Check the "Contact Us" page here to reach the Training Office with any questions.
We look forward to working with you!
