EMT Class

IEMS teaches an EMT-Basic course during the fall and spring academic semesters. Students learn to assess and manage a wide variety of medical emergencies including cardiac, respiratory, diabetic, neurological, and toxicological pathologies, as well as hemorrhage control, shock management, and musculoskeletal injury treatment.

Students in past classes come from both health-oriented and non health-oriented backgrounds. Our students pursue future health careers in medicine, nursing, pre-hospital care, and physical therapy, but also non-health careers such as engineering, computer science, political science, or business. The majority of our EMT students are UIUC undergraduates, but UIUC graduate students, faculty, and staff are welcome to apply as well. This course is a unique opportunity for each student to receive training that will enable them to positively impact the lives of others.
