Firefighter Tim Pogue of the Aurora Fire Department was awarded the Medal of Valor for his efforts to rescue two men from an apartment fire in Aurora, Illinois on April 10, 1999.
Firefighter Pogue and Lieutenant Mike McCue were called to a fire at the Maple Terrace apartment complex on 905 Second Ave., a four-story facility for senior citizens and the disabled. The fire, on the second-story, generated thick smoke. Despite low visibility, Pogue and McCue were able to safely remove two victims that they found in the hallway outside the burning apartment.
